Unique spaces to collaborate

The Legendary

A luxury members-only club and hotel, with unique spaces to collaborate, perform, dine, and discover and yes, there’s a shipwrecked boat on the rooftop. h Club is the brainchild of the late, great Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and internationally acclaimed musician Dave Stewart. The dynamic pair dreamed of a collaborative hub for creative innovators, establishing the private club in Covent Garden, London in 2004. It was an instant success. Located at the iconic intersection of Hollywood and Vine, h Club was founded by the late Paul Allen. Abbott Construction transformed the original building into an exclusive club through major renovations to the structure and interiors. Highlights include the addition of a new rooftop level, a new pool over the parking deck, and a new sky bridge connecting the building’s two wings.

East Course

The East Course starts and finishes on the main site and is highlighted by seven ‘home paddock’ holes. The bunkering is superb while the greens, though smaller than the West’s, are as beautifully constructed and sloped. It incorporates some of the most dramatic undulation on the course, the short four, long four, and mid four start is brilliant with clear risk and reward options from the tee and birdie to double bogey possibilities. The final two holes are famously used on the world-renowned Composite Course.

West Course

West Course highlights include bold bunkering while the rough areas around the tees and bunkers are a mix of native grasses which naturally frame each hole, providing great definition and contrast. The greens are brilliant and for decades have consistently provided the finest putting surfaces in Australia. They are large and beautifully contoured they are built to accommodate approaches from a number of angles with each progressively more difficult the further the tee shot strays from the perfect line.

Composite Course

Royal Melbourne’s Composite Course is continually rated in the top 10 golf courses in the world, an amalgamation of the work of two great golf course designers, Alister MacKenzie and Alex Russell. The Composite Course came into being in 1959 when Royal Melbourne was asked to hold the World Cup (known as the Canada Cup at that time).

The Content

The h Club clearly offers all the expected luxuries of a high-end private club—open-air pool deck, beauty salon, gym, plush bedrooms and numerous lounges and bars offering chef Kris Morningstar’s richly layered food. But it’s the h Club’s out-of-the box thinking that sets it apart. That starts with its arts foundation, which has not only curated work for sale by artists such as Anja Neimi, Gina Osterloh and Freize star Lisa Anne Auerbach but has also invited them to become members. The club’s partnership with neighbor Capitol Records manifests in a collection of rare photos from the Capitol archives displayed throughout the property. An app encourages members to share projects, and a state-of-the-art recording studio welcomes singers, musicians and podcasters. An Artists’ Lounge can morph to host a band, a comedy show or a screening. This cornucopia of amenities is set against a dynamic backdrop that Luciano Mazzo characterizes as “British, but with a twist.”
