Aesthetically pleasing

Automaker’s first effort into the electric vehicle market, Porsche Taycan

Performance

Porsche Taycan is the automaker’s first effort into the electric vehicle market, and it marks the company’s first foray into the market. In the majority of cases, it’s a no-brainer. Both aesthetically pleasing and functional, it provides a glimpse into what high-performance automobiles of the future may look like in the future. The Taycan’s greatest weaknesses are its lack of range and economy, both of which are areas where it falls short of competitors such as the Tesla Model S. For the first time in 2022, Porsche GTS-badged Taycan sedans and Sport Turismos will be available for purchase.

Models

Porsche’s Taycan is separated into tiers based on the amount of power it produces, similar to the company’s other models. The Turbo and Turbo S trim levels are available, however the name is a bit of a misnomer because there isn’t anything to compress here.

Technology

The Taycan’s interior is lavishly screen-decorated. A 16.8-inch curved digital gauge cluster is provided for the driver’s use. The dash-mounted 10.9-inch touchscreen controls the entertainment system, which is supplemented by an 8.4-inch secondary screen for quick access to frequently used features. In 2022, the system will finally be compatible with Android Auto (Apple CarPlay was already built in). In addition to wireless charging, both rows have multiple USB ports. Additional 10.9-inch screens are available for an additional $1,130 from Porsche so that the person who called shotgun can DJ without interfering with the navigation system. It’s also possible to get high-quality sound.

Rivalry

What’s the catch? Efficiency. As the least efficient electric vehicle currently on the road, the Taycan has the unwanted distinction of being the most expensive. By internal-combustion standards, it’s still rather good, but the electric rival performs significantly better. The Taycan has a maximum range of 227 miles, whereas variants with a smaller battery have a range of closer to 200 miles. That falls far short of the performance of a Mustang Mach-E, let alone a Tesla.

The Taycan’s crosshairs are focused on the Tesla Model S, which is in the middle of the crosshairs. With the Porsche Cayenne, Porsche differentiates itself from the Tesla Model S by doing what it does best: creating a car that makes driving a pleasure. Despite the fact that it may use some assistance in the battery sector, the Taycan is an impressive achievement.

2022 Porsche Taycan

Is it possible for Porsche to make an electric vehicle feel like a Porsche? The answer to this question is an emphatic yes. The Taycan maintains a high level of driver engagement, and it seems lighter than its weight would suggest. When you upgrade to the Turbo trim level, you’ll be treated to blisteringly fast acceleration. The Taycan is also quite attractive. Our favorite lines (and practicality) are found in the Cross Turismo wagon, but the Taycan’s design is equally beautiful in any configuration. With its two stability control settings, the Taycan GTS has a split personality that alternates between conservative luxury sedan and powerful slideslide machine.

Systems

GTS sedan and Sport Turismo versions have been added to the lineup. The new Paint-to-Sample tool offers an almost limitless amount of color possibilities. As an option, remote parking assistance is available as well. Android Auto is now compatible with the vehicle’s infotainment system.

Porsche provides two different power outputs for each of its powertrains, which just adds to the complexity. A basic performance mode and an overboost mode, which is activated during launch control, are available to choose between. Have we not made ourselves completely clear yet? Porsche also offers two different battery sizes for a number of different trims and options. With the larger battery, you can get more range and power out of your vehicle in the same trim. This results in a mess of figures that overlay each other. For the record, no Taycan is slow, and the Turbo models are every bit as frightening as their Porsche 911 counterparts in terms of acceleration.

Substitute

Though Porsche currently only offers one all-electric vehicle, the Panamera E-Hybrid, the brand also offers a hybrid version of its flagship model. With fewer horsepower but more torque, the hybrid Panamera is a few tenths faster to 60 than the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, which is priced slightly higher. There is virtually no difference in total cargo capacity between the two aircrafts. For its looks and efficiency, we’d recommend the Taycan if you have access to a charging station at your house. In that case, the Porsche Panamera is a fantastic choice.
