Possession & overjoyed

Numerous creative storage solutions, and the combination a luxury aircraft

Performance

To finally have a new Sienna in our possession, we’re overjoyed, and Toyota has put in significant effort to make its famous people-mover even better. It may take some getting used to the bullet-train appearance, but once you go inside, you’ll find a spacious and comfortable cabin. There are numerous creative storage solutions, and the combination of movable second-row seats and an optional ottoman creates a convincing impression of being on a luxury aircraft. Having said that, the third row’s small windows might make the space feel cramped due to their small size.

Models

The new standard hybrid powertrain is extremely efficient, according to the manufacturer. Driving the new van, on the other hand, is reminiscent of driving a Prius in that it sacrifices some engine and ride quality refinement in order to achieve maximum efficiency. It came up short in a comparison to the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in, in part because of the improved ride quality and innovative seat storage provided by the Chrysler van.

Technology

All 2021 Siennas will be equipped with a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will be compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa, among other features. The vehicle also has satellite radio and Wi-Fi hot spot capabilities. There are six speakers in the standard audio system, eight speakers in the XLE model, and a 12-channel JBL premium audio system with integrated navigation in the Limited and Platinum variants. Platinum variants are also equipped with a 360-degree video system and a 10.0-inch head-up display, among other features.

Rivalry

The all-new Toyota Sienna, which has been on the market for more than a decade without a major redesign, makes a big change by adopting a hybrid-only powertrain. The Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, and Kia Sedona are all expected to compete with the Toyota Sienna, which will debut in the minivan segment in 2021 and will be the company’s first entry into the segment. It has been determined that the Toyota Sienna is the best overall value for the year 2021 according to IntelliChoice.

2021 Toyota Sienna

Toyota will equip all 2021 Siennas with its Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 collection of active safety technologies, which has not yet been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The following features are standard: automated emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist with lane centering, automatic high beams, and road sign assist, as well as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. We haven’t heard anything regarding the cargo capacity or interior space of the new Sienna at this point, but we’ll pass along whatever information we do have. The Sienna LE and XLE will have seating for eight people, as well as a bench in the second row of seats. Certain XLE models, as well as the XSE, Limited, and Platinum, are equipped with Super Long Slide second-row captain’s chairs, which provide 25 inches of fore-and-aft adjustment for the driver and passenger. If you choose the Limited or Platinum trim levels with front-wheel drive, second-row passengers will be provided with ottomans to rest their feet.

Systems

The most significant change for the 2021 Sienna is the transition from a V-6 to a four-cylinder hybrid engine, which will be standard on all grades. The powertrain is comprised of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that transmit power through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive when fitted with a third electric motor. The total horsepower of the system is 243 horsepower. The resulting fuel economy is outstanding, with EPA ratings of 35-36/36 mpg city/highway, compared to 18-19/24-26 mpg in the outgoing Sienna, according to the manufacturer.

Substitute

There is a major variation in the powertrain between the two vehicles. The engine of the third-generation Sienna was a 3.5-liter V-6, however the engine in the 2021 Sienna is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that is enhanced by electric motors. Both come with front-wheel drive as standard, with all-wheel drive as an option. The previous Sienna had 296 horsepower and was equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission; the new model has 243 horsepower and is equipped with a continuously variable transmission. When it comes to efficiency, the hybrid component will make a major impact. Toyota promises that the new vehicle would score 33 mpg combined, which is significantly better than the 2020 Sienna’s combined fuel economy of 21 mpg. Both cars have a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, which is the same for both. The 7.0-inch touchscreen used on the 2020 Sienna gets replaced by a 9.0-inch screen found on all 2021 versions. The entry-level L trim is also being phased out of the new model range, which will most likely result in a much higher base price.
