The flagship LX is a comfortable and luxurious vehicle, Lexus

Performance

A significant facelift was carried out on the current third-generation Lexus LX, which was first introduced in 2007. The SUV received a significant facelift for the 2015 model year. A few of the other full-size three-row luxury SUVs with which it competes include the Land Rover Range Rover, the Cadillac Escalade, and the Infiniti QX80. It is now possible to purchase Nori Green Pearl paint; Nebula Gray Pearl and Nightfall Mica, on the other hand, are no longer available. New 3-Row Sport Package as well as 3-Row Inspiration Series #2 are now available. Upholstery with a glazed caramel finish and Amazon Alexa compatibility are both available.

Models

Is your Land Cruiser now a luxury vehicle? Located above the Lexus UX, NX, RX, GX, and GS is the Lexus LX, which serves as the automaker’s flagship SUV. The LX is built on the same platform as Toyota’s rugged off-roader, the Land Cruiser.

Technology

One of the things we’ve always disliked about the LX is the technology. While the specs look good on paper (standard 12.3-inch split-screen display, integrated navigation, Bluetooth), the infotainment system is controlled by a finicky touchpad, and the graphics are out of touch with today’s standards. Particularly disappointing given the price point is the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Audio is provided by nine speakers as standard, but an optional 19-speaker Mark Levinson system is available for audiophiles. Optional rear entertainment system, which includes dual 11.6-inch displays, additional USB charging ports, and two sets of wireless headphones, is available for those driving with children in the backseats.

Rivalry

The LX’s off-road capability distinguishes it from some of its competitors in this regard. Its off-road performance is smooth and confident, thanks to selectable low-range gearing and an abundance of off-road driving technology, which is shared with the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser. Although it’s massive dimensions can make things difficult, this Lexus is capable of transporting you almost anywhere. Existing competitors such as Land Rover Range Rover, Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade are in a state of competition with one another.

2021 Lexus LX

The flagship SUV from Lexus features a single engine, transmission, and drivetrain. It has a 5.7-liter V-8 producing 383 hp and 403 lb-ft of torque, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and 4WD. We were able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds in the 2016 model with the same powertrain. LX has the second-highest Environmental Damage Index of any vehicle currently on the market, with a fuel economy of just 12/16 mpg city/highway. As a standard feature on the LX, Lexus includes a number of driver-assist features. All trims come standard with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Systems

The clunky infotainment system on this vehicle is the most obvious indication of the vehicle’s age. When compared to newer competitors, the 12.3-inch screen provides plenty of digital real estate, but the touchpad controller is difficult to use and the user interface feels dated in comparison. This wouldn’t be a big deal if the LX came equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but it doesn’t, and that’s almost inexcusable in 2021, when both systems are standard.

If driving comfort and off-road capability are more important to you than handling, modern technology, or acceptable fuel economy, the LX can be a fantastic long-distance, go-anywhere SUV. Otherwise, there are more suitable alternatives.

Substitute

The flagship LX is a comfortable and luxurious vehicle, but when compared to its contemporary competitors, this SUV stands out for its age and stoicism. That won’t bother all buyers, but it might be enough to make them consider shopping somewhere else.

With its standard air suspension, the big LX rides like a piece of magic, making it an extremely comfortable cruiser for long distances. Although it is unlikely that many Lexus LX owners will drive this vehicle quickly through the twisties, the LX exhibits significant body roll as well as significant nosedive when braking. Performance-wise, the standard V-8 is more than adequate, but the tall-geared, economy-minded transmission can make the powertrain feel sluggish at times. The old-school V-8 is also a big drinker of fuel.
