Enormous two-door

Ultimate performance for a snarling exhaust noise, Dodge Challenger

Performance

If you’re looking for a roomy, old-school muscle coupe, and you’re willing to sacrifice ultimate performance for a snarling exhaust noise and unlimited burnout potential, the Challenger is a good choice. Dodge’s enormous two-door is larger and heavier than its Detroit-based competitors, resulting in a handling deficit that can’t be fully compensated for by massive, sticky tires and a massive V-8 engine. The Challenger is designed to be more of a grand tourer than a specialized sports car, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that approach. The Challenger’s quiet, comfortable cabin, as well as its smooth ride quality, serve to further underscore this concept.

However, the Challenger’s V-8 engines generate a gruff growl, lots of low-end torque, and practically infinite smiles for the lucky enthusiast who gets to sit behind the wheel. As a bonus, we also appreciate that AWD is offered on V-6 models and that the interior is made of high-quality materials and includes FCA’s user-friendly UConnect infotainment system, regardless of the trim level. Additionally, Dodge is offering a supercharged 717-hp monster with three pedals and a stick between the seats. The Challenger has a wide variety of engine options available. Dodge offers a wide variety of engine options, including six- and eight-cylinder, normally aspirated and turbocharged, as well as RWD and AWD, manual and automatic transmissions.

Rivalry

In IIHS safety testing, the Challenger has not been the most impressive performer so far. On the small overlap front, it receives a marginal score in the driver’s side test, and it receives Acceptable ratings for roof strength, as well as for head restraints and seats. The optional front crash prevention system has been rated as ‘Basic’ by the insurance industry. The Challenger receives a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests. Compared to the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota 86, this vehicle is a runner-up.

Substitute

Regardless of whether it is powered by a modest V-6 or a ferocious V-8, the Challenger retains its classic muscle car character. Although it is not the most sporty pony car, its spacious cabin, comfortable ride, and relaxed handling give it personality. The Challenger’s V-8 engines produce a gruff growl, plenty of low-end torque, and nearly limitless smiles for the lucky enthusiast who gets behind the wheel of one. We also enjoy that AWD is available on V-6 vehicles, and that the interior, regardless of trim level, is composed of high-quality materials and has FCA’s user-friendly UConnect infotainment system.
